Low fat, high fiber Vegan diet makes me really constipated? why?

wolffox asked:

I now eat little fat in my meals, almost no oil, no meat, sometimes fish/shrimp(mostly boiled)
i eat whole wheat bread, fruit, Veggie, low fat, low sugar food, drink pretty of water, no diary food for me (i drink soymilk).
but why am i so constipated? every time i go to the bathroom, i have the unfinished feeling, there is always something left in my body, which is really annoying, because my belly kind of sticks out.
shouldn’t i have much better bowel movements since i am eating low-fat, high-fiber food?
can someone help me?

Thanks
Ok, guys. I eat fish, only for the Omega 3 in it. And i love seafood in general, i eat fish like once the other week, so most of my meals are 100% vegan. I just thought it would be easier to explain it this way.

Question about my diet?

katetope asked:

Ok I have a question about my diet. First im a vegan and eat natural food..brown rice, fruits, veggies, legumes/beans, tofu. Very little processed food. I just recently started eating oatmeal and fruit for breakfast and found that I have been getting a lot more gas than usual… I wasnt eating fruit for a couple months. But I get way more gas now and have two bowel movements a day now..Is this because of the natural oatmeal and fruit in the morning? Cause I used to eat bagels or cereal.

My feet have been numb since yesterday morning, any ideas of what it could be?

autruche_et_cricri asked:

So, yesterday morning, I went to scratch my foot, and noticed that I couldn’t feel it! I can feel it, but not on the surface (of my skin). It’s totally numb. It’s only on the top of my foot, towards the outer edge. And it’s not affecting my walking at all, or foot movement. I also noticed, yesterday afternoon, that my other foot had the same thing going on, to a lesser degree. They aren’t swollen or a different color, although, for the past few days I did notice that they looked a little red (but it’s so cold out and I’ve been wearing flats and high heals without socks, so I chalked that up to the weather), but now they’re a normal color again.

I have both of my feet tattooed but I wouldn’t attribute anything to that. One is a year and a half old and the other is 6 months.

I have a sort of odd diet, as well. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it an EDNOS, though. Sometimes I eat normally, sometimes I eat the same thing for weeks on end, and sometimes I don’t eat at all. OK, so it sort of is, but I’m figuring that out on my own. Also, recently I went from a vegetarian diet to a vegan one. So my eating habits have changed drastically, and I know how they can affect every aspect of your body.

When I exercise (this only happens when running, or jumping jacks, jumping rope, etc. . . basically anything that puts my entire body weight on my legs), I get a weird pain in my shin. On the side, sort of like a cramp but it’s so pinpointed and stabby-achy I know it’s not. This has been going on for a while, though, and I haven’t thought much of it.

I used to get huge migraines when I was in highschool that made me sick, but I haven’t had one in a while, but even when I do, it’s usually when I’m stressed out (and midterms are over, so I know it’s not that, and I might lose my job thanks to the economy but it’s a part time gig, so I’m not sweating that and on the relationship front, I don’t even care right now, haha). But yesterday, I got such a bad headache at work that I could barely drive home (it affected my eyesight (I need glasses to drive anyway though)) and then I got home and my headache was so immense that I almost vomited. I fell asleep around 11 probably and woke up around 9. . .. I usually only get a few hours of sleep (because of school and work) but 10 hours is still a really long time! After I woke up, I feel fine.

While I’ve been working the last few days (I’m a cafe barista), I’ve noticed that I can feel my heartbeat below my thumb, and even see it pulsating.

So, basically, everything I wrote I think could be relevant. I’m on the brink of being 21 (3 weeks) so I’m not at an age where it’s normal to have these issues and I’m not obese or anything. I wear the same shoes I’ve been wearing for months. My dad has diabetes, but not the genetic kind and he got diagnosed with it in the last few years.

So: Any ideas what it could be about?
Thanks!

P.S.-Sorry this was so so long!

Can we find a happy middle ground?

Bolder asked:

Can someone explain how being a vegetarian or vegan has come to be a political movement? Almost a religion? I grew up in a community with a lot of vegetarians and it was always just a personal choice, something that was private, and it was frowned on for you to preach about it, or make a scene about what others may be eating. It seems now like it is a war of words, a war of attacking people for how they live, and a war of if we are omnivores or not. By all the science I’ve read we are omnivores, that if we were not the people eating so much meat would be very sick within days of eating it, just as a cat would get sick for eating plants for a week, or a deer would for eating meat. Chimps are omnivores the most closely related to us of all animals. It seems that the issue should not be discriminating against people for what they eat, since eating some meat seems to be on some line a normal behavior in a very round about way, and trying to change the meat industry. Why don’t we put our energy into that since the cause of trying to turn the world will never happen, and at least make the process of getting meat more humane, less a health hazard? i am not a vegetarian, but very rarely eat meat. My question is why argue abot this in an almost religious manner, and why not make the best use of our energy, and do what we can to find a middle ground?
That is a good explanation drusilla. As a spiritual belief, haven’t we learned that religion isn’t to be fought over? As spiritual beings, aren’t we supposed to respect our faellow man and only pray for him? Sure speaking to someone about the beifits is perfectly reasonable, ut the people who become fanatics and angry over issues like this, doesn’t that cause more pain then anything else?
By private I mean not on your sleeve, as what brand of toothpaste, or what TV shows you watch are not worn on your sleevewhy what goes into your body need to be bannered across your life

Hcg still present and feeling movements 3 months after miscarriage?

J P asked:

I thought I miscarried in August. I was only a week or so pregnant. I had two ultrasounds in early sept., both showed empty sac, and my uterus measured 5 weeks. My blood tests still indicate HCG at low levels…decreasing little by little since September after a surge. However, I am gaining a little weight. I notice that I am having trouble with my waistline. I have been feeling little movements, mostly when I am sitting. I wonder if I am in fact still pregnant. My midwife says that we will not be able to detect anything on an ultrasound with this low a level of HCG(4 hundreds?).
I have been bleeding for about 9 days, with some clotting. I eat predominantly raw foods and wonder if maybe that has something to do with low HCG levels. As I know not much research has been done on the subject of Raw Vegan diet, but I do know that it changes your alkaline/acid balance…and a lot more (for the better)! So, what else could those little movements be? Any ideas?

Should we just make up some fake political parties to mix it up?

rabble rouser asked:

Maybe one of them will catch on…

I’ll start.

The Lesbitarian party - big issues are womens rights and vegan cooking.

The Robin Hood Democrats - A movement away from capitalism in keeping with democratic elections - like free communism.

Christian Nationalist Party - Main aim is to infiltrate the US government from within to establish Christian law without anarchy.

Any more?
oops - I just found out that one of these parties actually exists….LOL
