I’ve noticed lately that the v/v section seems a bit more vegan than vegetarian. Am I the only one that thinks

that? Answers tend to be excluding vegetarian diet options (milk, cheese, eggs etc…) Is the vegan movement more popular than the vegetarian diet at this point?
I’m neither…..I raise chickens for egg and meat.
Apres Vous: good point about questions seeming to stimagtize veganism more so than vegetarianism. Extremes (if you want to call it that) usually stick out more than more laid back versions….

What Do You Think Of PeTA Wanting An Excise Tax On Meat?

**Anti-PeTA** asked:

PETA Proposes Excise Tax on Meat
From the USSA
Are you a meat and potatoes kind of guy? If you like a good burger and fries, or fried chicken and biscuits, animal activists think you ought to pay more for your meal.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has kicked off a new “Tax Meat” Campaign, proposing a $.10 per pound excise tax to be paid on meat, the same way that gasoline, tobacco, and alcohol taxes are paid so that tax is calculated into the retail price.

PETA suggests that money raised by its “Tax Meat” scheme could be “put into health education and preventative medicine.” Translation - the money could be used to advocate vegetarian and vegan diets and promote the animal rights movement.

Animal activists have also asked federal lawmakers to give tax breaks to those who have sworn off the consumption of animals.

On May 30, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk sent letters to Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nanci Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging them to extend vegetarians the tax breaks that hybrid car owners receive for purchasing vehicles with low carbon emissions. She claims vegetarians are responsible for fewer greenhouse-gas emissions and environmental degradations than meat-eaters.

Long Term Constipation?

allama4life asked:

Okay. So I am 14. I know I’ve had a problem with bowel movements ever since I was young. I just don’t have bowel movements; only about once a week (I know, gross).

The reason it is so weird is because:
*I drink plenty of water every day
*I do not exercise all the time, but even when I exercise, I still don’t do it.
*I am vegetarian, going on vegan
*I do not eat between meals
*I eat healthy
*I sleep 7-9 hours every night
*I have an average weight for my height

What should I do? I do not have any pain when going. It just doesn’t come…expect once in a while. And when I do I feel so light.

PS: would acai berry help?

Does milk really help calcium intake?

truwiccangal asked:

I have read a lot of information that says that milk doesn’t help with osteoporosis and that it really doesn’t give you the calcium you think it does (These are studies from Yale and Harvard). I hear it’s really not that good for you after all like the milk industry wants us to think. We are the only species on the planet that drinks breastmilk. I hear that the high protein count in milk actually leaches the calcium from your body. I have also heard that broccoli and nuts are actually smarter sources for your calcium intake. Is this all true like I think it is? I am really thinking of becoming a vegan, for ethics, health, and the environment. I think I can be part of the movement.
Bucky I still don’t know what promotion you’re talking about…you didn’t happen to reference what you were referring to…

Yes I heard that about the Maasai too!
Carped, the Harvard study doesn’t agree or disagree if you read the article. In fact when I read it, I get more of the evidence that we really should be getting more of our calcium from other sources rather than milk. But it really does go back and forth
Yes that’s what I meant about the breast milk issue Happyear, thank you!
Bettey I think it depends on what else you were eating in your diet…maybe you weren’t getting enough sources of calcium or some other mineral in other foods…
Ballgame, I don’t think that most of the sources I have heard from are propaganda-related. I am talking about actual scientific studies.

Walt Disney?

CoopALoop asked:

Do you think Disney has strengthened the vegetarian/vegan movement by targeting young children with it’s media?

Think about it, targeting young children with films of animals talking, playing, and having ‘humanaly intelligent’ conversations with each other. What kind of person would do that?

Was Walt Disney a vegetarian/vegan?

Do you think this is ethical?

(not trying to bash vegetarians/vegans as I am not saying vegetarians/vegans are wrong but rather am asking about ‘advertising to children’ ethics)
